It has been said that netizens make the most noise but never actually act on it, and this is disappointing.

According to a survey done by Kanzu Code, Ugandan youth aren’t voting for a number of reasons; they don’t believe in the system, they feel the winner is pre-determined, they hate the long queues, and I think these are excuses.

Late night I watched We Are Legion: The story of hacktivists on Netflix and I saw the kind of power we have, if only we left our comfort zones and did what we preached. Anonymous and Lulzsec stood up for what they thought was a good cause and took to the streets to protest the methods of Scientology.

There were fears among them that no one will show up as there is fear that us the social media activists will not show up at the polling stations. The most amazing thing is that thousands and thousands of people in different cities all over the world camped at their regional church of scientology to protest.

How I wish we can be like them regarding this election. Cast our votes, protect our votes and inspire others and generations to come.

Vote-450x270

We should have no excuses for not voting. We should lead by example and take to the polls in magnitudes of numbers and claim our prize. We have worked SOO hard at expressing our dissatisfaction in the system’s structures and governance online, that time has come to express it in action.

Are you in the voter register? Did you pick your voter/national ID? Do you know where your polling station is? If you are not sure there is still time, send your Voter Number or ApplicationID or National ID Number to 8228 or visit this site http://www.ec.or.ug/api/voter/id/ to see if you are a valid voter, we don’t want people left behind, everyone is welcome to this party.

Even Kanzu Code, went a step further and created LondaApp whose goal is to help remove barriers to get us involved in the electoral process by providing us with the necessary information.

And then, they also partnered with the #KoiKoiUg campaign, an initiative by Kafunda Kreative, whose aim is to break stereotypes about Uganda abroad and encourage Ugandans to actively participate in the promotion of their country.

“The first step in promoting our country is by electing leaders who share the same heart about the country as we do, leaders we can work with. All our best intentions will be futile if the leaders who are chosen aren’t pushing policies to support us” — David Ogutu, Team Leader, Kafunda Kreative

Even though there is a ‘statistical error’ in the released data in the voter’s register (but who are   these 20,000 people?) by the Uganda electoral commission, this shouldn’t stop you but rather motivate you to drop your hate for long lines, that feelings that says ‘the election is pre-determined’ and get with the programme, WE ARE VOTING COME FEBRUARY 18TH!

  1. Hey, I thought if it’s about hacktivism, then maybe it will be where it can be accessed more freely, whithout a netflix account, and there it was on youtube, first hit in googlesearch.

Maybe if the film inspired you, it will inspire your audience also, so here it is:

  2. Predetermined votes break my heart, and in most cases I feel like my time ‘ill be wasted instead of remaining in fields digging. But I am taking the last risk, I ‘ill go and vote. Ready to change!
Worry comes in, ‘hat is the intention of the ruling shit government rejecting Electoral Reforms? Can’t even determine the outcome after our votes are rigged or in such a way of predetermined voting?
I alert my fellows daily to firmly vote Wisely but….! 🙁
