Am a tweep actually am called by my friends an addict which i will not deny, according to twitter i tweet 20 tweets per day. Not an addict as i thought i was or as people who see me think; it only 140 characters per tweet making it 2800 characters a day, like a blog per day.
Any way my reasons for tweeting are because i take myself as my own brand and thus i have to be available when am needed and should be able to notify my followers what is happening with their favorite brand thus the over concentration on my twitter gadget.
Tweeps follow content and personality, and want ways that can make them stand out from a sea of tweets, make them connect and build connections which can actually make famous, popular, sale for them. So how do you make twitter work for you?
First You Have To Be Sharing Great Content; If a tweep shares great content like a blog he/she wrote or read, the number of retweets and mentions make them proud and this kind of sharing plus acknowledgement means the word to them. Which i guess should mean the same to you if you share what you read or wrote.
All bloggers want to know that their work is appreciated, so retweet and mention a post with your network no matter how big or small it is.
Twitter is a great site to help you share and because you share great and nice content, your following will grow and be struck on you too because you either write great blogs or know how to find great blogs that can help them.
Look For Things In Common Among Your Following; when you share a blog or tweet you will see how many retweets and mention you get off it then you will understand what is common between you and your following. With this it possible for you to share relevant information. Plus you can click on the tweep’s avi to have a quick scan on their profile to better understand who they are and what interests them. Here you can find similar things to you like locations, work that inspires them so that you can stay relevant in your sharing with them. Finding out more about some one other than their avi and handle makes a difference to all tweeps after all that is why a bio is there to help connect to each other.
Always Give Compliments; there is that one thing on a tweep’s profile or tweets that inspires or is creative and needs to be appreciated, be kind and give the compliment. The little comments, compliments and acknowledgement of seeing them makes a difference in that tweeps’ twitter life. It doesn’t have to be much, but if there is something you can acknowledge, then do so. I don’t know about you, but I feel good when someone pays me a compliment. Try doing it for someone else!
Never Forget To Always Give Thanks; Please this one is a no-brainer for any one i guess. If someone shares your stuff, Retweets your stuff, mentions your stuff, compliments you on your stuff…whatever your “stuff” is, thank them. Every time my handle is mentioned in a tweet i make sure I respond. A simple gesture that only takes a moment is a thank you and sometimes you meet really cool people during the “engagement” afterwards:
Try Using First Names When Replying A Tweet Sometimes; it makes a difference that tweep that you actually know their first name away from their handle. When you use a tweep’s name in a tweet you are immediately personalizing it. You will stand out and this is definitely worth the 3-10 characters that it requires on average to do so. Plus check your mentions daily and respond to people by name, if someone retweets one of your tweets, go to their profile and check to see if they have a “real” name listed (if not part of their Twitter Username). Using their names shows that you are not sending automated retweets and thank you tweets. Use their name in the thank you tweet! For example, I am @pkahill, but my name appears as Kahill. I will notice when you use my name anything.
Show You Are Real;
when sending out a bunch of Thank You Tweets, make sure that all of them are different, if you can make it so. Use the person’s name or mention their company or respond to something that they have said, or talk about a particular event plus try to be wary of “locations”. All this shows you are interested and that you are a real being not an auto mated response. I don’t mind automation for the sake of scheduling “content” tweets containing links to posts, but if you are addressing a specific person, make it personal!

Go beyond the @Mentions; By this, I mean take a moment, and actually click past the RT or Tweet. Take a look at the profile of the person. Perhaps take it a step further and check out their website. See if it looks interesting to you. By doing this you are getting to know who these people who retweet or mention your stuff are away from twitter but on the other sites their have shared in their bio. Remember social media is all about communicating and engaging, so this going beyond can help grow in this area. You will meet a lot of new people you never excepted to meet by doing this.
Add Your Engagements To A List; these allow you to track people you follow and organize them into searchable groups, provide some sort of compliment. If you are going to put people into a list, make it one that they feel good about! I have not gone down to doing this yet but when am about to begin because i have identified who will go where and why. But i follow a list i was added in TweepsUganda@Samwyri and i am enjoying it. It has all his best Ugandan tweeps making it easy for me to follow other tweeps who i don’t follow but he added on this list. So your list can be followed by your own followers and tweeps you have added to it.
Follow Up on Lists That You Are Added To By Someone Else; This is another way that a simple Tweet can lead to something more. If you are added to a List you can see it on your timeline, in your List section (under Member Of). If someone adds you to a list, thank them! You never know where it might lead!
Don’t Forget New Followers; Of course, another way to acknowledge other Twitter Users is to thank them for following you – and even better, follow them back. In my case, I tend to follow more when someone engages with me than when they follow me. It is a personal choice as I like to acknowledge engagement, but you may choose to follow everyone. Regardless, the very act of following is a “thank you”. But you can take it one step further and thank them for following you with a simple Tweet.
All the above will make twitter work for you, if you are marketing anything because tweeps already trust your content and twitter strength. You should try it and let me know how it works out for you.
