I read the bible once in while and when I do, I dig deep in to it to understand more like the chapter below.

Psalms 1. says;

“1 Blessed is the one
    who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
    or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
    which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!

    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
    nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”

This all chapter is about the company we keep and how we need to examine them to see if we are benefiting from them or they are dragging us down with less accomplishments and developments.

The company you keep determines who you are and who you will become because these are the people that teach, motivate, influence and impact your life decisions and ideas. These people determine what you will get in the progress of your life.

We all have our friends and people we trust with our ideas and situation these people guide, help, empower and energize us as Peter and John had, Acts 4.23-24;

“23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.”

Peter and John had a company of friends who they would pray with in unity, who had the same views and ideas as them. Do you have your own people? People who can stand in the same gap as you and raise the unison voice with the same aim?

In the company of many with the same vision and drive, a lot can be accomplished.

All those friends you walk with do they see you and understand your ambitions and views, and where you want to be? Can they help you get there? Are they like God and Moses in Deuteronomy 32:13;

 “He made him ride on the heights of the land
    and fed him with the fruit of the fields.
He nourished him with honey from the rock,
    and with oil from the flinty crag,”

You should know that ‘a lion will act like goats if its in the company of goats’ if it doesn’t just eat them.

The company you keep or get determines what you will keep or get. Proverbs 13.20 says that;

“Walk with the wise and become wise,
    for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Wisdom is transferable so be careful with the friends you keep, you wouldn’t want to be a fool. Psalms 101.7;

“No one who practices deceit
    will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
    will stand in my presence.” thus says the Lord

The devil uses the company we keep to tempt us and destroy us. So evaluate your friends and see what value they add on you and what destruction they bring to you. Evaluate the places you go to and people you keep, what kind of impact do they have on your life?

We all remember Delilah, the love of Samson, she destroyed his life and he lost his way. Yet the people who associated with Joseph in Egypt received blessings.

Some people are cursed and if you associate with them you bear their burden, as you bear the burden of a person who is blessed.

The associations we keep either tire us down to people, if these people are not progressive ones, then we will never be able to move forward.

Remember God has not designed life to be lived in isolation so you need to find the right people God has prepared for you and your destiny. Two people are better than one.

There are many verses in the bible that talk about the right company and what it can accomplish for you.

Gen 13.5 Lot was blessed because he was in association with Abraham

1 king 17-8:24 Blessing for keeping the right company

Jeremiah 3.15 Identify your pastorleader

Numbers 22:23

John 6:60-68 Peter knew what Jesus had.

  1. It is true. The friends we make, the people we spend most of our precious time with determin what we shall be tomorrow. I remember while i was young under my elder brother’s roof. This man used to drink alot of alcohol just because of the friends he had. On changing the friends, he stoped the act and he began doing constructive things in the names of investment. His now the big guy behind Real Group based in Kamwokya.

  2. This reminds of the quote, “Surround yourself with the 5 people you want to be most like.”

    Okay, I’m paraphrasing, but I believer the message is somewhere in there. I have however found one flaw with the advise from the quote. What happens in the situation where these people that you are looking up to, are also trying to surround themselves with people higher up and not the likes of you?

    I’m certain, though, that there is a way around it… I’m still tryna find it. I’ll get back to y’all when I do.

    Till then, Thanks, Kahill. Blog was insightful, as always.

    1. So Severe you are welcome.
      About the quote I think it like a chain reaction, everyone needs some one who can challenge them…. Knowledge needs to be refilled so that it can be re-shared
