At the end of last year, WordPress announced that it will be offering classes to people who wanted to start blogging, or those who wanted to improve their blogging experience.

Yesterday one of the classes I signed up for started, and the first assignment was issued. The assignments or tasks are out each weekday at midnight, and one can do each task on their own time, also one can even visit The Commons when they need help and some feedback, or want to check out what others are up to.

The Commons is a private space for Blogging 101 participants where they can get help, chat about the challenges they are facing as bloggers, beginner or not.  This community also aims to help bloggers in this class forge deeper connections with other bloggers and has a regular presence of Happiness Engineers Chrissie and Saravanan (from WordPress). These are the moderators who answer questions, clarify assignments, offer more resources and tips, and direct one to more support when necessary — check out the guidelines.

So if you didn’t apply for this class, I will be sharing some of the assignments here and also find out from the moderators if you can join in.

Tasks so far include writing a post, like the first one that asks us to Introduce ourselves. But I am not doing it because I already did here and there. But if you want to take part in this class without being in it, here is a guideline the moderators have offered to get you started,

  • Why are you blogging publicly instead of keeping a diary?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what do you hope to accomplish?

The others tasks are said to be behind-the-scenes like adding widgets or customizing a theme. Let the learning start!

In other news the #UgBlogWeek is coming soon in this month, so watch this space and this one too.

Be blessed!
