Let me begin this blog with this inspiration quote…

my story

Now my testimony.

When I was mugged and robbed that warm Saturday night that still haunts and horrifies me, the person who picked me and dropped home from the road side knew me from Facebook. Hello Ocan Brian.

When I had no idea what to do after I lost everything that made my work easy; from my specs to my phone, it was an online crowd funding website that showed me hope and how to share my story. Thumbs up for the guys at Akabbo.

When I was wondering if investing time in a crowd funding was the right way, it was a tweep who started #TweetHelp4Tweeps hash tag on twitter in regard to restoring my lost things. Hello Aswiime Colin.

When my story got out and the website was facing issues, my online community made it a point to find me and share what they had to further my restoration. Hello MTN mobile money, MoneyGram and WesternUnion.

A few days ago my 2,500,000Ugshs (app $1000) crowd funding campaign ended with a total amount of 1,240,000UgShs (app $443). To break it down in terms of collection centers, 60,000Ugshs was from Akabbo , 100 dollars from Money Gram and Western Union , 450,000Ughs on Mobile Money and a pair of new specs worth 450,000Ugshs from Mengo Hospital.

Most of the money above was given by online friends, many of whom I have never met but keep engaging and interacting with.

The spirit of Ubuntu among my online community was overwhelming, everyone had something to offer. Many kept checking on me through calls, emails, in boxes, DMs, and others visited. When I say my online community is better and awesome than yours this is what I mean. My investment online has been one of the best things I have ever done, it has yielded me friends all over the world.

I am writing this blog to thank everyone who did anything for me in regard to Restore My Life campaign. I am so grateful, I am thankful; I am amazed at how good God can be to someone. I am now a ‘proud’ owner of an iDriod Royal v7 and it is an interesting handset. (Wait for a blog review)

I am still struggling with recovering my ninjaness. I am afraid of the dark and in that sense fear walking alone at night. Most times when it gets dark, I get panic attacks and flashes of the mugging appear in my hand. But all in all I am sure this will pass in due course. I am not letting them take my peace of mind and freedom away from me too.

As there is a negative and a positive, there were those negative people who didn’t approve; those guys who criticized, the ones who made me look cheap for asking for help. The ones who don’t understand that sharing is caring, that giving is a privilege. These guys stormed in with their self righteousness and ‘richness’ and had me for breakfast, they chewed me up but I ignored them. I knew that to make my cause relevant, it had to have a negative, without that it won’t have been a worthy cause, the equation wouldn’t have summed up. With them I was able to learn and understand more about crowd funding and the community at large.

Lastly, I say again Asante to my friends. Thank you very much for the love and care. Thank you for your money, words, tweets and retweets, Akabbo stat visits, for the phone calls and house visits, for being you.
THANK YOU!!!

Acts: 18. 10. For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

  1. I personally didn’t know about that sad story about the mugging but am thankful that you had the courage to ask for help online (few people have those guts), sharing your testimony allows other people to understand the online community is actually full of real people that care (and of course others that are just for show). Am sure this testimony will be an inspiration to many and encouragement to you as well every time those sad thoughts of the fateful night creep into your head. God Bless you Patricia.
