What side would you be on? Are you Heart or Hand?
How do you win this kind of rivalry within yourself?
Delayed gratification according to Wikipedia is deferred gratification, which means the ability to resist the temptation for an immediate reward and wait for a later reward. It is associated with resisting smaller and immediate rewards in order to receive larger and better rewards later.
Delayed gratification is one of the most effective personal traits of successful people. It is thought that people who delay gratification are more successful in their careers, relationships, health, finances and really all areas of life.
A person’s ability to delay gratification relates to other similar skills such as patience, impulse control, self-control and willpower, all of which are involved in self-regulation. Being able to delay gratification is a skill that must be acquired by one on their journey to accumulate wealth.
To have wealth, our resources must exceed our needs. And without control, our desires and needs will exceed our resources. If you find that you are compelled to often “have it all” right now, consider taking these steps:
- Make a quick to do list.
- Identify the things on that list that can wait.
- Consider if waiting for those items might actually result in a better outcome.
- WAIT – Delay gratification of one thing on your list.
- Evaluate your results.
I am incorporating the above steps in to my saving culture. I will be dealing with the conflict between my hand and heart to accomplish my target of saving for some dearly needed household furniture. The plan is to have my pallet inspired furniture completed before the end of this year. I would like you to join this challenge against your hands and save for your heart’s desire. Let me know in comments what you will be saving on.

Thanks for sharing Kahill, personally am going to be saving on how much i spend on the usage of bodaboda rides and impulsive shopping. I have broken even how much i require for transport daily and other basic like airtime and meals. My impulsive shopping has been greatly supported by the fact that i always have an excess when i am moving.
Well done Grace. Wish you all the best at this. Hope you found the blogs about #AfricaSaves ( they are 12 blogs) helpful.
