I have been to a number of these, some were informal and others were formal. Indirect ones were more of meet ups with tweeps to catch up which ended up being tweetups. Then the direct ones were actually organised by different brands, campaigns, individuals and organisations.

What Are TweetUps?

These are real life meetings organised using a social media platform, twitter. These are meeting between tweeps who follow each other in real life. They are most times there are formal and few informal ones.

How Do TweetUps Work?

TweetUps work when tweeps in agreement meet  up in person but continue tweeting about what is happening around them. They can be arranged and organised through invites by either good causes of charity or businesses. While others come up because tweeps want to meet up and caught up with each other.

Where are TweetUps held?

TweetUps are held anywhere from a sitting room to one’s compound, to a coffee shop, parks and even conference rooms. Tweetups are meetings so wherever meeting can be held so can tweetups.

Who attends TweetUps?

Tweeps attend tweetups. Most of those who attend have not met each other before but are acquainted online through following and online activities.

What happens at TweetUps?

When tweeps meet, they tend to have length discussions which are either from the tweets sent in earlier or during the discussion itself.

Most tweetups are organised around a certain topic which has either gained capacity online and needs a more indepth discussion or a topic that need to just begin.

How do tweeps to get to know about TweetUps?

Tweeps market tweetups to their  followers so that every tweep  knows what is going to happen or is happening through either hashtags or direct messages.

How to create  TweetUps

Tweetups are created using one’s followers on twitter to have face time with them regarding any specific topic and concerns that unities you all.

There has to be a purpose for this face time because tweeps will continue to tweet about what is happening thus you have to have a goal or aim for this.

How do you Promote TweetUps?

You can promote your tweet up through other social platforms if you want it to have a good attendance and if it is board wide topic that needs to be discussed. If it for a company product or cause you have to have a team who will help with promotion and getting quorum for your tweetup.

Make sure that your target audience is involved in your promotion for this tweetup and are already tweeting about it before the actual meeting. Make your tweetup relative, it has to relate to the tweeps you are asking to attend and you need to do research before it.

Let the tweeps start talking about it before the due date, create a wider awareness online before the event date.

Though there are tweeps for hire, who get paid to attend any event or tweet up and tweet about it at price. These come in handy if you have no large number of followers or the one your followers  are not influential enough to create the buzz you need.

Snacks, Drinks?

Most of the ones i have attended these were availed to us and i think they add value to the brand or cause in a way. They are kudo points.

Others;

Plan for more people than you expected, thus your venu and snacks need to be enough or the tweetup purpose will be diverted to less space or meals. For this you can use services like Everbrite to help you know how is coming and how is not. It is not sure proof that whoever registers will come, some don’t come and other come but it helps with planning.

If registration was done online with an event service, better have the tweep’s handle on the list, no one wants to be bounced or held back because of your little efforts.

While organising don’t forget, please don’t forget, the free wifi spot and charging stations. This is very important wonder why i almost forgot it. You have to have free internet and power points for tweeps to charge their  tweet gadgets or you will be limiting yourself to 25mb- 50mb and 1hr- 3hrs powered gadgets.

Your venue should be  appropriate to your topic of discussion. You can not have a tech tweet up in a restaurant when there are tech hubs, you can’t have a political tweetup in a tech hub, there are conference halls for that, you can’t have a social tweetup in a conference hall, there are restaurants and gardens or parks or even bars for such.

Never rush a Miranda, meaning everything to be perfect it  needs time and planning, so take your time plan and re plan then act on and act on and then present it.

Always be early to venue where your tweetup is going to happen or the tweeps will start divert your topic to poor time management for the first few minutes or hour of your tweetup. So as an organizer have everything set that was arranged for this meeting.

If you have a register ask for handles not names, it is embarrassing to be asked for a name when it is a tweetup. Also provide tweeps with handle tags(name tags) this will help recognise who is who, making it easy to interact.

Have your own handle printed out with the relevant hashtags so those who have just joined the can know and follow.

Take control of your own hashtag, when you’re checking for the statistics of how many tweets were sent out using your hashtag, you need to have your handle appearing in the first 10 with every many tweets about  the tweetup using the hashtag.

Respect every tweep equally because no one wants to be snubbed, that drunk tweep drinking away at your open bar, is an influencer with an 89% klout score and you don’t need such a person to boo your brand on his timeline.
All tweeps at your tweetup are equally important in their own capacity so respect their views and ideas plus age.

Hope this is helpful to anyone trying to organize a tweet up in the near future, and don’t forget to invite me, i need to evaluate you to see if you learnt something from this blog.
