The moment I read it, I knew I had to write about it. I knew in my bones that this message had to appear on my blog and it had to be shared for all my followers to read and know that it’s not okay, not fair, not fine, not kind and not your destiny.

“These are the metro-dwelling twentysomethings who’ve internalised the pressures surrounding them, and spend a majority of their salaries on keeping up the lifestyles and appearances that they believe are essential to earning those salaries.”

I have seen them, I know some of them by name (if only I could mention them but I consider them friends –  arm length friends) and it worries and hurts me to see them go on pretending to be fine yet they are not.

We should never pretend even the world tries to laugh at our situations, we should never try to fit in the holes that were not made for us. We each have our own destinies and our own set out futures, they have been curved in stone by the Almighty, we all have to listen to inner selves and embrace that voice.

I know this because I was once there, there where you have to fit in with the cool kids. There where you dress has be perfect even when the wallet says we can’t afford that. There where no one cares about your well being but rather your turn up. The place where you know deep down you are hurting and broke – a church mouse is more richer, it dwells in the house of God.

These my friends are trendy and aspire for greatness and a few of them are even willing to work for it. They prefer keeping up with the Kardashians to Think Tank, they hate hard labour and love expensive and nice things.

Let’s live within our means, do the hard work to earn the lives we want to live, be realistic with ourselves and aim for greatness, not live the greatness that we can’t afford.

And to those who continuously put others down because they don’t fit in your level of pretense, please get a life and grow up, we all don’t want to be like the Kardashians, some of us are trying to solve some of the world’s problem and have no time to pretend, you should try it sometime, it’s fulfilling and more rewarding.
