Self-leadership, is the practice of understanding who you are, identifying your desired experiences, and intentionally guiding yourself toward them.

This is something I have come to like in conversations I have with myself and others. Who are you, what do you want to be and how are you being it? Self-leadership helps one understand their personal values and who to align themselves with so they can achieve the purposes aligned to the values.

During the Dine and Dream hybrid event by Imagine me Africa of 2022 held on 12th January, under the theme #BeTheInfluence22; I attend the leading in 2022 session where Dr. Clare Gakenic shared some gems that I want to keep here for future reference.

Dr. Clare Gakenia is a Transformative Leadership Coach at The Leadership Co. who plays a vital role in arming gifted people with leadership skills by specializing in truthful straightforward coaching conversations that help people think clearly about their personal values and vision.

She shared about the tools that one can use to have a straightforward self-leadership that which called the 4cs of self-leadership include

  1. Comprehensive Vision. One that is not in collision course with one’s life aspects. A vision that is well aligned and compliments all the other things one has going for them. These aspects include personal and health, finances, spirituality, environmental, relationships, and intellect. Do a self evalution of where you want to be in all those aspects, be very trustful to yourself
  2. Capacity. Do you have the competencies needed to achieve the vision you have, what skill sets, behaviors or abilities do you need to adopt or adapt to deploy for you to get where you want to be?
  3. Core values. What are your personal values? Where can they be achieved? How can you align the values with the things you have set out for yourself?
  4. Control. Do you know that vision must be controlled so it doesn’t go off track… evaluate and navigate it?  Make sure it doesn’t overlap your values and capacity, cause then you will not be able to achieve your dreams and vision

Having graduated from the school of leadership at Harvest Institute, this session helped emphasize the things we learned. I was glad to have been reminded of my lesson from class and how I planned to implement them throughout my life.

What are you doing in 2022 to be the influence?
