Beginning this #PkTechWeekly with a look into online shopping.

Did you know that

DSTV Opened an Online Shop

Called UgDuka to offer its customer who don’t want to go to their different branches, a chance to order online and have their equipment delivered in 2 days?

Some of their products have been discounted for this purpose as of writing this blog, check it out here. The explora full kit goes for 344,750Ugshs without the installation fees of 80,00Ugshs which you pay to the installation person.

And then

An Online Liquor Store is about to come to life.

You must be above 18 years to access this and order for your favorite drinks.  You can check it out here.

Now on to a topic that left me wondering if

Snapchat can Help Tell Stories of Survivors of Sexual Violence.

I am all in for safety and anything that can help get people abused talk about their experiences, as it helps with the healing process. But can snapchat be the desired platform for this kind of engagement and interactions needed for this? Can SnapChat provide the kind of security that victims need while sharing their stories? Does it offer one the confidence needed and not feel like they are cutting open almost healed wounds?

I found evidence that SnapChat can help, here. In India which has the highest rates of violence against women has proof that that snapchat can be adopted to help tell the stories of those abused and violated.

In other News, not so new though,

NITA has a Certification Scheme for all those working in the IT sector.

These include
a)    I.T service providers
b)    I.T products
a)    I.T training institutions
b)    I.T professionals (only as part of the IT Service Providers and IT Training Institutions).

You would wonder why one needs this kind of certification but NITA has all the answers here.

There has been a lot of talk about this certification process and the requirements needed for it that some people think it’s unfair to those who are self-trained while others feel it’s necessary if we want the sector to grow.

I say we go with what will real make the sector grow with no hold backs, as the

Business Processing Outsource Conference aka BPO-ICTAUg conference is coming back.

According to the event page the conference is scheduled for 16th September 2016. There are no more details about it but you can like their event page to keep updated.

While you are it,

Bill Gates said Solar is not the energy solution Africa needs.

This man really has Africa at ‘heart’. From launching a poultry campaign on the continent to now talking about our need for “cheap, clean energy”.

“You might say, well, aren’t people saying that about wind and solar today? Not really. Only in the super-narrow sense that the capital costs per output, when the wind is blowing, is slightly lower.”

Read more about his speech here.
