Orange acquired Airtel In Burkina Faso

Orange stated that, together with its subsidiary Orange Côte d’Ivoire, completed acquiring 100% of the mobile operator Airtel in Burkina Faso. Since the signature of an agreement with Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV (“Airtel”) in January 2016, Orange had obtained all the official approbations necessary to complete this transaction.

Kenya Mobile Money Users Numbers are Growing

Kenya’s mobile money transfer subscriptions reached 24.8 million as of 31 March 2016. During this time, the number of mobile money agents grew to 147,761 compared to 141,542 agents recorded the previous quarter. This is according to a report via Telecompaper.

WhatsApp Daily Voice Calls Rose to 100 Million

Users of the messaging service WhatsApp are already making over 100 million voice calls every day just over a year since the feature finished rolling out to Android and iOS users. In a brief blog post, WhatsApp said the figure was equivalent to 1,100 calls a second and that it was committed to making the feature even better for its 1 billion users in the months to come. WhatsApp started full end-to-end encryption across its messaging app last April and FoneArena recently reported that the company has started testing a video calling feature.

The Hack4ag Uganda came to an end

The hack4ag Uganda hackthon was concluded and three groups were awarded for coming up with the best applications. Kuangalia, an app that helps farmers verify seeds quality emerged winners. The first runner up, looked to organize how Sacco s operated in Uganda. The Farmer’s Amazon were the second runner’s up with their API that would enable different applications from different developers run on USSD.
