It has been one year since I choose this path.

It is not something I learnt in school, it is a career path I taught myself with guidance from people who knew what it was all about.

Stephen Musoke, Michael Niyitegeka and James Makumbi I salute you.

In my one year I have learnt that;

I can be an expert on anything – With all those informative and engaging blogs I tend to share on my Twitter timeline, I developed a strategy that I adopted when I started out; using great mobile apps.  With their help I have created an atmosphere around myself that says ‘I am well informed with Social Media and Technology News and trends’. *Bragging rights.* Even though all that can be achieved with researching and following the trends.

“Go where no one else is willing to go” Stephen always tells me, so I read High Tech on my News Republic App, LinkedIn influencer blogs on Pulse.

Keeping you guys engaged, is a battle am still fighting –  Followers are always expecting new content, something insightful with ideas and information thus my job is never done even if I tend think I am over sharing. So I read blogs, convert news reports in to worthwhile stories, speeches in to insights and mere communications in to marketing materials and schemes.

My search for new methods to share and develop content keeps on growing because I have to keep my readers (you), clients and buyers engaged and satisfied. With this I tend to lose my identity to a product, take over a new look on my timeline for the sake of the client’s products and other times I tend to see other content marketers passing requests of ‘retweet this please’ a style I have not fully engaged with yet.

I have had to understand my audience – that is through content mapping, lead segmentation, scoring and nurturing. I can’t just post content my audience is not interested in.

Posting content for just, doesn’t work in this business, it has be significant and valuable to the people it is shared to.

Then there is the marketing tools – Content marketing depends on a number of tools to keep up with, the never-ending demand for engaging content.

Now, you may be asking yourself, “What does a content marketer really need? A computer?” Well, yes, but it takes a lot more external help for successful content marketing than you may think.

If you didn’t know we are like journalists, we also have editorial calendars though I call mine a content calendar then, I have content curation tools and social media scheduling tools. Finally I have to look out for the competition. This tools have kept me afloat for my first year.

With the above, I am ready for my second year doing what I enjoy doing; creating, researching, sharing and engaging –  social media and content marketing.
