I want to sit in a park with flowers, trees and children running around, but the way Kampala is set up…cars, fences, shopping malls, policemen!!

I found one, it has no flowers but very green and welcoming, this square is inviting! Fresh green grass all over. The scent coming from the grass is comforting and desiring, the wind blowing the few trees in and around it is warm. It looks peaceful than anywhere else yet the chaos from down town is just a few meters away.

The Lost Park...
The Lost Park…

I look over the fence, the grass is calling me, it wants me to feel it, to sit on it, it misses human connection, I want to rescue it but the man in the blue uniform with a gun says “Nedda Nyabo, no enter”

Me and the grass we have a need but who will satisfy it?

  1. There is just no where to sit in Kampala.
That was exactly my experience when I tried to sit in that grass.
I was so tired and I just wanted to lay prostrate on the grass but the Askari couldnt let me.
I even lied about being sick but it was a No from him.

What is the point of these parks?

They might as well just used plastic grass, if it was for decoration.

The KCCA park infront of Watoto Church is open for sitting but It is just inconveniently placed.
There is always too much sunshine. And there is never a shade.

Thank you for writing about this.

    1. I have walked around this city of yours and no open park!
There is one in Kamwokya next to Cafe Java but it has restrictions…
What city has no open spaces for people to relax and cool off the heat?
