Let me tell you about the interesting things I have seen business owners in my area do during this Corona Virus lockdown season;

1- A butcher’s business was closed as all others were, this family man made a disruptive decision to ride his motorbike through our area with an announcer about the availability of cow meats(liver, kidney, offal, and meat). He carries along a measuring scale to be fair with weights of the meats. Today, I was among those waiting for him on the road. I had a conversation with him about how business was doing and his family income growth.
He said, “I make more money than when I used to work in the shop”. He told me he had closed the shop and took the tools home. He picks his meats from the industrial area and heads off to our area to sell no need to go to the shop. His shop now is the box at the back of his bike.
The only expenses he faces are the fuel, and now the rising demand for the meats. He suggested I invest in him another motorbike to carter for the demand as he already has an available rider good with managing meat.
Covid19 had him disrupt and now he is earning more than ever excepted.

As I walked away back home, I found kids with backpacks in a rush to my neighbor’s compound, I stopped and inquired what was going on and this is what I found out,

2- A teacher decided to teach kids in our neighborhood using my neighbor’s huge compound as a classroom. The kids were keeping the social distancing rules. I inquired from one who willing to give a minute of his time what was happening, he told this is lockdown classroom and they are rushing to revise because they have an exam on Wednesday next week. They don’t want to fail. They are 15 from the neighborhood. They take lessons for 4 hours every day at a cost of 10k per child per day.
This teacher’s disruptive method is making a killing for him and keeping the kids engaged academically. I want to talk to the parents and see how cost-friendly this is to them but to the teacher I know his family is not lacking.

Most times we tend to think we are locked in and can’t do anything to improve our situation but the truth is we are our own limitation. This season should teach us more than something.

So how are you disrupting the old system and developing a new one for yourself and business or work?

3- Yesterday I left home to go into Ntinda, and I cursed.
How do you guys travel like this every day in this jam? It took me like 2 hours to get into Ntinda and another 2 hours to get back. Those are 4 hours I lost, adding the exhausted and fatigue hours of resting; making it 5 hours. On my normal days when I am not leaving the house these hours have me dropping proposals and strategies left to right and center. I failed to do that yesterday.
I think if you really don’t need to go to your office please stay home and let those who are essential be on the road. There is no reason for one who runs an internet-enabled business to be jamming up in traffic for such long hours. At Kahill Insights we are still working from home until further notice. We delivering even better than before.

Don’t allow the fear of the unknown hold up captive because this change you see is not really going anyway, you just need to disruptive your old system and evolve.
