Building a Business is a Huge Time Commitment

I have been at it for a few months now (like 7 months), after spending two years as a freelancer and I sometimes wonder why I had too.

Building a business is like raising a child. In the first year, you are the supply of food and comfort. Without you their system is on the brink to death and no one else can help them. You are the one who knows what clothes are appropriate.

Your social life starts to die and the visitors who used to check on you, give excuses that ‘you need to take care of the little one, so we have given you some space’ others you ignore by yourself because you know you will not add any value being with them yet all your thoughts are on that project you have not finished.

Or that your conversation will be on how your baby is doing and what you find to be challenging and successful.

I no longer stay up awake watching movies and reading books as I used to, the time does not allow. If I space a minute I tend to use it to crack away on a problem I want to solve or figuring out what a client would need tomorrow. I read blogs, articles for work research and not for leisure. If chance happens and one drops on the timeline then I click and read it immediately and move on to what I was looking for.

18 hours awake per day is something I used to do, doing nothing really productive but watching the latest series on the market. Now my DVD guy wonders what happened to me. My family has nothing to say because they have seen this happen with many of my relatives and thus just offer support and care when they feel it is necessary, other times I am left alone with my child.

This is the substantial sacrifice and commitment I have given to my child and hope she will grow up to be a beauty woman of value and substance. A great company that solves problems with curiosity and passion.
