When someone asks, ‘are you investing?’ most people tend to think in the lines of money… ‘yes I have invested some dimes in some project’, ‘no I don’t have money to invest’.

I believe money is not the only resource we humans can invest. Yes it is the strongest resource but as we all know it is a rare resource to mostly the youth who have just been at jobs for less than 10 years and are being paid peanuts.

In my own understanding and from the content I have been reading on LinkedIn Pulse, resources for investment can be time, money, land, skills, knowledge and abilities.

What of the above is it that you are investing after we remove the scare resource money?

We all look at making money and investing it but not at the other resources we have around us or with us.

Most of us have idle land back home in the village or even where we are staying right now, the landlord/lady’s compound but because we don’t consider land as an invest-able sources we are chasing the rare one, doing all sorts of things for a buck yet the land at home would get more bucks if we invested in it.

Being a mentor is a resource, you are sharing your knowledge with others and investing in a future. It might not be rewarding immediately but who does want to look back and see the people he or she taught something doing good and changing the world with the knowledge he shared? Teachers are the best examples for this.

Share your ideas and skills instead of sitting on them. Invest them in to others, let them grow them and improve them. I know people who are big share holders in companies because they shared an idea that improved its performance or even created it but don’t work there.

Some may ask how do you invest what you and many consider little because it’s not money?

Volunteering your skills, knowledge and abilities is an investment that we all know yields great rewards.

Utilise that piece of land you have idle back home or that small space you have in your compound. Grow some vegetables in that small space and sell them or even use them at home and save on money.

Invest in time. Use your time fruitfully. Do things with that time that will yield great results. Meet people in your free time, read a book, do some research on a rare topic, add knowledge to your mind.

Invest in the above and I think you would have invested in a best future. But if you have the rare resource-money- please find a company and buy some shares, invest in a promising start-up, invest it for yourself and the generation after you.
